華沙軍事博物舘 Warsaw Military Museum

Translated by Glen Steinman  1992

A vast expanse of whiteness
in the cold and cloudy dusk
the faces of the heroes monuments
are blurred
merged with
black branches
decayed walls
Clumsy artillery
pointing at the sky which is larger than itself
Military tanks
muted
eternally at anchor
Hobbled engines
weary with exhaustion
Memories of wild ambition
stranded in anonymous lands
The telescopes grow blind by the day
the knives blades become increasingly blunt
Every day the light shines too early
the evening comes too soon
In the pale sky
black machines too cumbersome to be moved
paralyzed in the endless white snow
are metamorphisizing into
scattered hay
fragile twigs.
